My work is an exploration of surface decoration and graphic imagery on functional vessels. These objects serve as a vehicle for relaying personal narratives to the viewer via illustrated scenes that span across several pieces to create a single tableau of whimisical images. The dialogues between the intimately scaled objects speak about a relationship to domestic life that is both familiar and foreign to me. The imagery romanticizes a suburban idealism that is a manifestation of an altered past recounted by surviving relations. These narratives, suspended between the real and the imaginary, materialize on porcelain ware to exist both tangibly and allegorically.
I enjoy making art. The practice of making and enjoying precious objects has lead me into the field of ceramics where I can explore both 2d and 3d design to create visually interesting and dynamic work. I am a recent graduate of the University of Florida and received my BFA under the instruction of Nan Smith and Linda Arbuckle. I am excited to be living/working/making/ teaching and eager to explore what it means to be an artist in contemporary culture.
